The Methods’ Summer School 2020 was particularly directed at Master and PhD students in the areas of International Relations, European Studies and Political Science, exploring qualitative and quantitative techniques used in Social Sciences’ research. The Summer School involved students from different Universities and Institutions, bringing diversity and allowing networking among participants.

During the School days, students were introduced to different research methodologies, awareness was raised about the research process and the challenges associated to it, and better understanding of the techniques for data selection, collection and analysis. The central idea of the School was to discuss the ways in which different methodologies may be applied, through an interactive process between the facilitators – experts – and the students.

Sessions varied in content and goals, including methods presentation and discussion as well as practical sessions where the use of diverse methods was simulated (e.g. interview techniques and fieldwork preparation/conduct). One day was dedicated to the discussion of the students’ work, making everyone an active listener and participant, and thus allowing extended learning and sharing of experiences. The Summer School involved (inter)national specialists working with distinct methodologies.
